The city
Peaceful and friendly, Santander is a city of Spain, capital of Cantabria (autonomous community uni-province) open on the sea with almost 200 000 people. Santander expand along a vast bay, frent of the Bay of Biscay.
All the city turn around the Bay, beaches and it is really full in monuments. There are four areas which are bringing to light in the city : the port, the beaches, the city-centre and the peninsula of Magdalena.
It was rebuilt like a modern city where we can be in contact with nature accompanied by its spacious avenue and numerous parks. Santander is also the ideal place for conference and meetings. Since 1991, the Festival Palace offers to its visitors differents facilities and services.
Its old city get together humbles buildings in a stunning natural site, which combined sea and mountain. Its seaborne and comercial tradition combined with a centenarian turistical vocation turn out obvious considering its famous beach El Sardinero, its seafront and the peninsula of La Magdalena. The cultural treasure to this city increase with the Santiago de Compostela Route and with the very close Cuevas de Altamira (cave).
There are a dozen of beaches which assure the seaside fonction to this part of the seaboard thanks to a cold water and waves generally powerful what is an advantage for the surfer, but those are once dangerous. It is a seaside resort very looked for but Santander stay one of the first industrial centre in the north of Spain. (food products, textile, chemistry).
Furthermore, Santander offer a large range of accomodations, which are able to receive a turism which search something differrent, much as in the form (cultural, natural, sportive, rural, gastronomic) as in the duration (a week-end, summer, business...).
